PEV offers its trademark blend of traditional and contemporary of music for the holiday season, together with Amaranth String Quartet. At the center of the program are several Baroque gems: The third cantata from J.S. Bach’s glorious Christmas Oratorio, select Christmas interpolations from Bach’s Magnificat, and Heinrich Schutz’s rarely heard storytelling masterpiece, “The Story of the Birth of Jesus Christ.” The Gloria by Sonoma county composer John Maas brings the musical celebration home to the Bay Area, along with other contemporary and traditional works.
